History would have been rich, if the history of the marginalized indigenous people, who were not a part of mainstream, were recorded and their voice were heard. There are sections of people who were considered as polluted and backward and hence their socio-economic and cultural life was not recorded. The book entitled CULTURAL IDENTITY OF PRIMITIVE TRIBE OF NORTH KERALA deals with the cultural identity, social structures and life of Koragas, Indigenous people now considered as a primitive vulnerable tribal group lacking written records to expose their tradition, cultural identity, traditional knowledge and socio economic life situations. Koragas, were subjugated during different historical periods and are now under threat due to marginalization. This book focus on the socio –cultural life of Primitive Tribes, their problems and challenges strugggles for survival and preservation of cultural identity. The present study with freshness in approach focused on the interaction of the external socio – economic, cultural factors with that of Koragas. The study is based on analytical and descriptive method and followed an interdisciplinary approach. Extensive primary and secondary sources have been utilized. Archival documents, oral history and extensive field study enabled to collect data for analyzing the socio-economic life, evolution, transition and cultural identity of Koragas. The collected data were analysed by using statistical method.
